Janáček Theatre is the youngest of the three buildings of the National Theatre Brno. It was built according to the project of Otakar Oplatek and Jan Víšek and opened on 2 October 1965. Its size makes it one of the largest theatres in Europe and from the beginning it was intended for large opera and ballet performances. It is one of the purest examples of the so-called Brussels style, typical of Czechoslovakia at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. In 2016–2018, after more than fifty years, it underwent a major renovation that brought it back to its original splendour and brought it into the 21st century.
