Reduta is the oldest theatre building in Central Europe, which has undergone many changes since 1640. It has been subject to four devastating fires and has been rebuilt countless times. In 1993 it was closed due to its state of disrepair. After several years of reconstruction, it reopened in October 2005 and is a unique combination of original architectural elements with a modern and technically equipped interior. The building was originally opened in 1733 as an opera house and in 1767 the first opera in the Czech language – “Watchman in Love” – was performed here. In the following years, Reduta hosted personalities such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz List, Clara Schumann and Johann Brahms.
