How to dress for the festival?

We appreciate that by attending the Janáček Brno festival, you help us create its unique atmosphere. To ensure your experience is perfect, we have prepared a short guide on recommended attire based on the venue and type of performance:

Janáček Theatre and Mahen Theatre

  • Recommendation: Formal / Black Tie or Dark Suit
  • For festive opera productions and major symphonic concerts in these venues, we recommend formal attire. For gentlemen, a suit with a tie or bowtie; for ladies, a long evening gown or elegant cocktail dress.
  • Free cloakroom service is available in these buildings.

Reduta Theatre and other external venues (Besední dům, Brno villas, Auditorium of the Brno University of Technology Rectorate, etc.)

  • Recommendation: Smart Casual / Cocktail
  • For chamber concerts and performances at these venues, elegant but less formal attire is appropriate. For gentlemen, a shirt with chinos or a blazer without a tie is sufficient; for ladies, a cocktail dress, an elegant trouser suit, or a skirt.
  • Free cloakroom service will be available at all locations.

Žlutý kopec Water Tanks and Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

  • Recommendation: Casual / Warm clothing (Outdoor)
  • Please note: The specific environment of the Brno water reservoirs requires practicality above all. The temperature inside is consistently low (around 10–12°C) with higher humidity, regardless of the weather outside. We recommend casual leisure wear, sturdy shoes, and especially an extra warm layer (sweater, jacket) so that you can enjoy the event in comfort.
  • Cloakroom service is not available.
