The building that houses the Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts is one of Brno’s significant architectural monuments and represents a permanent part of the city’s architectural history. It was built for the needs of the German Gymnasium between 1860 and 1862 according to the winning competition design by the Viennese architects Eduard van der Nüll (1812–1868) and August Siccards von Siccardsburg (1813–1868). Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk was one of the students of the grammar school.
Today, the Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts is an excellent educational institution in the field of higher art education. Its foundation is linked to the founding of Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts itself in 1947, when it was established as one of two faculties, alongside the Faculty of Theatre. However, the current Faculty of Music represents a broad platform not only for music education, but also for creative artistic and scientific activities, including activities aimed at wider cultural and social overlaps. Academic life at the Faculty of Music is closely linked to numerous concert activities, festivals, workshops and conferences.

Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts is located in the city centre, where public transport is well provided, so you can easily reach it from all parts of Brno. A basic ticket costs CZK 20 for a 15-minute ride and can be bought at yellow vending machines at bus stops, via text message or by placing a payment card to a terminal directly in public transport vehicles. The building is located about a 15-minute walk from the main train station and a 5-minute walk from Náměstí Svobody.

The building of the the Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts is located in parking zone B, which means that on weekends parking is FREE and on weekdays parking fee is 30 CZK / 60 min with the possibility of pre-payment.
