An exhibition of pictorial documents relating to the creation and first stage performances of Janáček’s fifth opera.

Pavel Haas: The Charlatan

The exhibition is dedicated to Leoš Janáček’s favourite pupil Pavel Haas and his only opera The Charlatan, which had its world premiere at the Zemské Theatre in Brno in 1938.

To Hukvaldy in the footsteps of Janáček!

MINIBUS SIGHTSEEING TOUR

A one-day coach trip to Hukvaldy, the birthplace of Leoš Janáček, lying near to Ostrava, some 150 km from Brno. The first stop in Hukvaldy will be a tour of the Leoš Janáček Monument, the home which Janáček bought from his sister-in-law in 1921 and today contains a charming exhibition dedicated to the composer and his native land. This will be followed by a visit to the former Hukvaldy school, where Janáček, the son of a teacher, was born. After lunch (not included), there is a visit to the Hukvaldy nature preserve and a statue of Liška Bystrouška. Before departure there will be time for a walk across the square to purchase the famed Moravian cake “lopaťák” from the Hukvaldy bakery. On the way back to Brno there will be another stop in nearby Příbor with a tour of the home of the celebrated father of psychology, Sigmund Freud.

The guide is the musicologist Jan Špaček. Departure from Brno (Janáček Theatre/Rooseveltova street) at 8:00 a.m., the return time to Brno will be approximately 7pm.

The price includes the coach journey and admission fees.

Brno Minibus Sightseeing Tour

GUIDED TOUR: In the footsteps of Leoš Janáček

 

The route maps places and buildings associated with the personality of Leoš Janáček (1854–1928), the world’s most performed Czech opera composer. It includes locations where Janáček lived, composed, conducted, taught, heard the premieres of his compositions, strolled around and met up with his friends, etc. You can also visit his home on Smetanova ulice, where Janáček spent the last quarter of his life and composed all of his greatest works. You will be guided by the musicologist Jiří Zahrádka, the curator of the Leoš Janáček Archive. An audio-guide will be available for international visitors with commentary in either English or German.
