The Janáček Brno Festival is celebrating another major success! It has been nominated in two categories of the prestigious International Opera Awards 2025 – in Festival (Janáček Brno Festival) and in New Production for The Excursions of Mr Brouček, directed by Robert Carsen, a co-production of the National Theatre Brno and the Teatro Real, Madrid & Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin.
The nominations refer to the 2024 edition, which was officially opened with Carsen’s production of Brouček (premiere on 1 November 2024 at the Janáček Theatre in Brno). This acclaimed work will also return to the stage as part of the preview events of the Janáček Brno 2026 Festival – on 7 October 2026 at the Janáček Theatre. Tickets are available HERE.
The upcoming 10th anniversary edition of the Janáček Brno Festival will take place from 13 October to 17 November 2026.
The festival has already won the International Opera Award once before – in 2018, when it was named Festival of the Year. Thanks to this recognition, the National Theatre Brno and the Janáček Brno Festival have secured their place among the most significant opera events in the world.
The winners of this year’s nominations will be announced on 13 November 2025 at a gala ceremony in Athens at the Greek National Opera – Stavros Niarchos Hall.
