At the Janáčeks’

Marie Stejskalová, the housekeeper in Leoš Janáček’s household, spent more than forty years by his side. She was present during his daily routines as well as in the moments when his most famous works were born. In her memoirs, she captured the composer as she knew him up close – with his resonant voice, strictness, and his ability to charm or wound with words. Her story will be brought to life by actress Hana Tomáš Briešťanská. The musical atmosphere will be created by pianist Jan Jiraský. Only a small taste of the rich “Mářa’s Memories” will be heard here, but they are well worth reading in their entirety.
