ROOTS

Janáček Brno 2026 will be a jubilee edition – the tenth time that Brno will immerse itself for several weeks in Janáček’s music, inspirations, life stories, and the influence he had on his contemporaries and successors. This time, the motto is ROOTS, because what we grow from shapes us all. In the work of artists – composers, visual artists, and performers alike – their roots resonate throughout their lives. They may be more or less apparent, but they never disappear. In this anniversary year, we want to reveal where Janáček’s music is rooted, what it grew from, and how far its branches have spread.

The main thread of the festival will be the presentation of all nine of Janáček’s operas, as performed by the ensemble of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno. Joining the Brno ensemble in this grand showcase will be not only outstanding soloists in the leading roles but also renowned international orchestras and conductors who will become an integral part of these productions.

The International Opera Awards

Over its nine editions, the Janáček Brno Festival has established itself among the world’s leading festivals. It also became the first festival in the Czech Republic to receive the prestigious International Opera Award for Best Festival of the Year 2018 (more information at www.operaawards.org).
