Take a closer look at opera! Join us for Behind the Curtain, a program designed for all curious minds, young and old, who want to learn something new about the world of opera theater. This 70-minute interactive, adventurous, and most importantly, fun journey into the heart of opera productions features soloists, the choir, and the orchestra of the Janáček Opera NdB.

Behind the Curtain is an ideal program that combines music education with Czech language or aesthetics. This time, we’ll take a look behind the scenes at the opera The Excursions of Mr. Brouček by Leoš Janáček. Although The Excursions of Mr. Brouček is Janáček’s only opera that didn’t have its world premiere in Brno, it doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about it. On the contrary, join us as we uncover the secrets of why Janáček chose Svatopluk Čech’s novella as his subject and why he picked an excursion to the Moon. Perhaps we’ll uncover Janáček’s hidden passion for sci-fi, but we’ll definitely demonstrate how lunar music is made. Of course, we’ll also take a trip back to the 15th century, refreshing our knowledge of the turbulent Hussite period in Czech history.

We recommend this program for middle school students. Given the direct involvement of participants, there’s no need to follow the usual theater dress code.
